Trick or treat!

Halloween came early in Lagos this year.

On Friday morning, the pre-schoolers enjoyed a trick-or-treat parade at the school, visiting the principal in his office and each of the elementary school classrooms to trick-or-treat.

Dane's teacher, Mrs. Smith, leads the parade.

Later in the evening, our very sweet, dear friends Shana and Matt invited us to their home on the Chevron compound so we could indulge in some good, old-fashioned, American-style trick-or-treating. Complete with dogs in costume! The Chevron compound is organized like an American suburb with sidewalk-lined streets, single-family homes and duplexes, and a neighborhood park and playground. The kids were on cloud nine and filled their treat bags to the brim before we returned to Shana's and Matt's for hot dogs, green enchiladas and fruit salad.

We pose for a picture with Ade before making the rounds at the Chevron camp. Nathan is Optimus Prime from the Transformers. Elizabeth is a cop and handed out tickets all night. Dane is Iron Man. Ade told us this was his first Halloween, which appears to be celebrated almost exclusively in America.

Dane is so excited he skips from house to house. Doesn't his tush look cute in that Iron Man costume?
While the family is out trick-or-treating, the stewardess answers the door and passes out candy.
A spooky entrance! This lady was handing out very special, home-made treats that resembled mummies and spiders.

It was a perfect night, made all the better by time spent with new friends. Happy Halloween!
