A day at Eleko Beach.

Rainy season or no, we were determined to make it to the beach today. And we made it! The sun did peek out briefly as did some very light showers. All in all it was a great day, and now I am wiped out from all the ocean breezes and strolls down the beach. I'm a bum, I know.

Here are some photo highlights of our day.

And you thought Galveston was dirty!

Clams growing on a bamboo log washed ashore.
The waves are fierce! Don't worry, Mimi, we do not allow them to go near the heavy surf ... just tip their toes in the tiny waves that wash up the beach. Even those can surprise you, though, as we learned when one aggressive wave snuck up on us and managed to steal Elizabeth's croc right off her foot. Daddy had to rescue it from the surf!
Sand crabs (see him dead center?) scattered by the dozens with every step down the beach.
Local vendors approached the beach hut with their wares.
We bought three batik tablecloths, a carved wooden bus with
"No food for lazy man" painted on the side, and a large basket.
I bought a pen and ink drawing from a local artist named Azeez.
We paid N9,000 or about $60. I'll have to post a close-up later so you can see the amazing detail.

Kim's and Ted's beach hut.

A herd of cattle goes by.
Elizabeth takes after my mother and loves to comb the beach for shells.
Another view of the beach hut.
I was fascinated by this old shipwreck.

This young man, named Promise, was celebrating his fifth birthday
with a trip to the beach with his family. His father wanted Promise to take a picture with the American girl.
Kim and Elizabeth feed leftovers to some local children.
Elizabeth was very concerned about the hungry children and tried to feed them coconuts.
The local boys brought Elizabeth a sand crab on a leash!

Showing off their pet crab to the drivers, Afolabi and Ade.
